Born in Venice in 1965, Monica Bonvicini studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. She lives in Berlin and Los Angeles.
Reflections on the role of architecture and the cultural conditioning it brings with it are central to Bonvicini's art.
In
her works she confronts, and sometimes clashes with, the traditional view
of modernist heredity that identifies the act of building as an essentially
male prerogative.
