Panoramic views of cities, ports, airports, train stations, factory interiors, offices, shops, or supermarkets are only some of the many subjects Andreas Gursky investigates through his camera lens.
Digitally manipulating the details of the images he has shot, the artist constructs monumental representations of the contemporary world, compiling a critical documentation of certain aspects of our civilization. The human being, who almost out of necessity is shot as part of a multitude engaged in a collective ritual, is always central to Gursky’s research.
