Luigi Mainolfi

Colonna di Rivoli
(Rivoli Column), 1987-88

Born in Rotondi (Avellino) in 1948, in the late 1970s Mainolfi set himself apart from other Italian artists who were undertaking new paths in painting and sculpture, aiming to link them with the nation’s cultural traditions.

Since his artistic debut, Mainolfi has elaborated a coherent personal style that involves sculpture made from natural materials like clay, chalk, and volcanic rock as well as cast bronze.

Through his sculpture, Mainolfi mixes elements of past popular culture with the memory of his own artistic identity.
