SUMMARY:Vibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth
DESCRIPTION:Vibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth is a project developed by Almanac Inn\, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and Orti Generali\, curated by Guido Santandrea and Marianna Vecellio\, in which the notion of decomposition\, hybridization and toxicity meets that of rebirth. \nStarting with the investigation of residual places and the transformation of matter\, the project investigates how processes of decay can represent opportunities for change\, metamorphosis and nurture\, in which new forms of coexistence\, alliance and stratification help to reimagine the existing and possible futures. \nIn the multiplicity of matter\, bodies permeate\, aggregate\, and participate in a collective dimension capable of subverting the individual condition of existence and transcending the human-non-human binomial. At every moment\, the form changes in a process of cyclical and perpetual reconfiguration to acquire a vital and mutable character\, capable of liberating and redefining the bodies. \nIn an approach that places transdisciplinarity\, ecology\, and intersectionality at its center\, the three partners will develop a program that\, from February 3nd to March 24th\, culminates in the week of the spring equinox\, a symbol of harmony and a condition for transformative benefit. \nVibrant Natures consists of workshops\, performances\, talks\, readings\, walks\, and installations to bring together nature and history\, environmental studies and artistic languages\, mysticism and poetry\, inviting international artists and intellectuals to Turin and engaging them in a dialogue with its territory. Among the participants: Soukaina Abrour\, Lucilla Barchetta\, Paolo Bosca\, Benni Bosetto\, Antonia Brown\, Filippo De Pieri\, Ethereal Society of Poetry\, Simone Frangi\, Matthew Gandy\, Allison Grimaldi Donahue\, Debora Incorvaia\, Huw Lemmey\, Michele Lonati\, Tabita Rezaire\, Viviana Sorrentino\, Noura Tafeche. \nThe program will unfold across the different venues of the partners involved: Almanac Inn\, the exhibition and research space dedicated to showcasing and supporting the practices of young emerging artists; Castello di Rivoli\, the first Italian museum dedicated to contemporary art; and Orti Generali\, the urban agricultural spaces established in a residual area on the banks of the Sangone stream in Mirafiori Sud\, strongly characterized by the social and environmental impact of the FIAT industrial plants that\, in the sixties\, led to a tenfold increase in the neighborhood’s population. \nVibrant Natures is a project made possible by the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo\, Fondazione CRT\, and Regione Piemonte.\n \n\nUpcoming Program\nSaturday 3 February\, h. 17\nCastello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea\nNatura Urbana: Ecological Constellation in Urban Space (MIT Press\, 2022)\, lecture by Matthew Gandy introduced by Filippo De Pieri\nIn collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Design\, Politecnico di Torino \n\nSunday 4 February\, h. 18\n\nAlmanac Inn\nNatura Urbana\, 2017\, screening of Matthew Gandy’s film and conversation between the author and Lucilla Barchetta\nIn collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Design\, Politecnico di Torino \n\nSunday 11 February\, h. 18:30\n\nAlmanac Inn\nPoetry reading group by Ethereal Society of Poetry \n\nSaturday 24 February\, h. 18\nAlmanac Inn\nالماء والشطابة حتى لقاع البحر Acqua e scopa fino in fondo al mare\nOpening of the exhibition by Soukaina Abrour (until 24 March)\nIn collaboration with Centrale Fies \n\nSunday 25 February\, h. 18:30\nAlmanac Inn\nPoetry reading group by Ethereal Society of Poetry and Allison Grimaldi Donahue \n\nSaturday 2 March\, h. 15\nAlmanac Inn\nMicro regali di strada\, workshop by Noura Tafeche in conjunction with Soukaina Abrour’s exhibition \n\nSaturday 9 March\, h. 18:30\nAlmanac Inn\nConversation between Simone Frangi and Soukaina Abrour \n\nSunday 10 March\, h. 15\nOrti Generali\nWalk with Michele Lonati \n\nSunday 17 March\, h. 11\nOrti Generali\nWalk and collection of medicinal herbs with Viviana Sorrentino\nand at h. 15\nWalk with Lucilla Barchetta \n\nThursday 21 March\, h. 18:30\nAlmanac Inn\nWriting workshop by Huw Lemmey \n\nSaturday 23 March\, h. 16\nCastello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea\nJardin Bois de Rose\, 2022\, and Terre Rouge\, 2022\, screening of Tabita Rezaire’s videos\nTango!\, 2024\, performance by Benni Bosetto\nLingua Ignota (Timeo\, 2023) reading by Huw Lemmey\nMercury + Red + Matrilineal\, performative reading by Antonia Brown \n\nSunday 24 March\, h. 12\nOrti Generali\nBanchetto della Rinascita curated by Debora Incorvaia and Paolo Bosca with the involvement of the Orti Generali community\nPoetry reading curated by Ethereal Society of Poetry \n\nBiographies\nSoukaina Abrour (Morocco\, 1997)\, artist.\nRaised in Italy since 2000\, Abrour graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. SUMMARY:Natura Urbana: Ecological Constellation in Urban Space
DESCRIPTION:Leading the contemporary debate on redefining nature in an open\, queer and decolonial sense\, geographer and urbanist Matthew Gandy\, professor of geography at the University of Cambridge\, presents his book Natura Urbana: Ecological Constellation in Urban Space (MIT Press\, 2022). \nStarting from a layered vision that combines queer ecology\, multispecies urbanism\, relational theory and critical landscape studies\, Gandy elaborates a notion of urban space understood as a place in transformation\, both natural and subjective\, for the individuals who participate in it. \nIn his presentation Gandy will outline a working typology for urban ecology that highlights four analytical vantage points: systems-based approaches that dominate both pedagogy and practice; longstanding observational paradigms that have recently permeated citizen science\, new nature writing\, and novel aspects of environmental art; urban political ecology perspectives that explore the structural dimensions to the production of space; and an emerging interest in multispecies urbanism\, with links to critical animal studies\, multispecies ethnographies\, and more-than-human geographies. \nNatura Urbana: Ecological Constellation in Urban Space is the first event of Vibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth. Introduced by Filippo De Pieri\, Professor of Architectural History at the Department of Architecture and Design\, Politecnico di Torino. The event is presented in collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Design of Politecnico di Torino. The event will be in english. \nThe next event is on Sunday\, February 4th\, h.18 at Almanac Inn\, Via Reggio 13\, Turin\, featuring the screening of Matthew Gandy’s film Natura Urbana: The Brachen of Berlin\, 2017. This will be followed by a conversation between Gandy and Lucilla Barchetta\, writer and anthropologist\, author of the book La rivolta del verde. Natura e rovine a Torino (AgenziaX\, 2021). \n\nBIOGRAPHIES\nMatthew Gandy (England\, 1965)\, geographer and urbanist.\nMatthew Gandy is Professor of Geography at the University of Cambridge and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. SUMMARY:From the palms of your hands grow the flowers of Palestine
DESCRIPTION:في كفوف يديك تنمو زهور فلسطين\nFrom the palms of your hands grow the flowers of Palestine \nMicro Street Gifts Workshop curated by Noura Tafeche in conjunction with the exhibition by Soukaina Abrour.  \nSaturday 2 March\, from h.15 to h.17\nat Almanac Inn \nregistration required > link in bio. \nMicro Street Gifts involves collectively preparing and performing a public act of ‘Radical Tenderness.’ The purpose is to let passersby and residents of the neighborhood find\, as a surprise\, small gifts in unexpected corners of the city\, expressing\, through the language of giving\, a message in support of Palestinian culture and resistance.” \nParticipants are invited to create and/or bring tiny handcrafted items made for the occasion or small recycled objects they wish to gift to the city. The “what” is left entirely to pure imagination. For instance\, they can craft small booklets with excerpts of poems by Palestinian authors\, micro-posters\, watermelon-shaped patches\, stickers\, little bags with seeds from the land of Palestine\, etc. \nHow it works: Before we begin\, all participants will be welcomed with a delightful mint tea. In the first phase\, we will create the small items we want to gift\, then package them together. We will share simple or clever packaging techniques. In the second part\, we will explore the streets of Borgo Rossini to place the little packages in hidden corners or well-visible spots in the urban space. It will all depend on our spontaneous intuition and what the city’s architecture suggests. \nWHAT TO BRING: You are free to choose what to gift to the city\, keeping in mind the message we want to convey. The only technical detail required is that it should fit in the palm of your hand. The size of a miniature can be up to 5-6 cm\, with no limits if the object is foldable\, such as a piece of fabric or paper. \nWHAT’S ALREADY THERE: A printer\, a laptop\, a sewing machine\, paper\, ribbons\, bows\, recycled decorations\, and packaging essentials. Note: Materials brought from home are always welcome. \nDon’t worry if you don’t have something ready to gift; you can join forces with other participants and create something new with the available materials. \nThe exchange and the simple act of giving – free from the expectation of receiving – is one way to build human connections. This is not an instructional workshop; we simply want to encourage a new habit. \nNoura Tafeche is an artist\, an independent researcher and an onomaturge. Graduated in New Technologies for Art from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with a focus on net.art and radical entertainment\, she studies Philosophy. Her path is developed through laboratory methods and practices\, video and miniature drawing. She explores the study of phenomena related to online visual cultures\, the aestheticization of violence on digital platforms\, linguistic experimentation\, and the visual representation of speculative theories.

SUMMARY:On Decay and Rebirth
DESCRIPTION:MARCH 23rd\, 2024\, h. 4 – 7 p.m.\nCASTELLO DI RIVOLI MUSEO D’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA \nTheatre\, from 4 p.m.\nJardin Bois de Rose (16m 4s)\, 2022\, and Terre Rouge (19m 31s)\, 2022\nscreening of Tabita Rezaire’s videos \nMuseum Atrium and First Floor\, from h. 4.45 p.m.\nTANGO!\, 2024\nperformance by Benni Bosetto \nSecond Floor\, Gallery 22\, h. 6 p.m.\nLingua Ignota (Timeo\, 2023)\nreading by Huw Lemmey \nProject Room\, h. 7 p.m.\nMERCURY + RED + MATRILINEAL\, 2024\nperformative reading by Antonia Brown \nDuring the week of the spring equinox\, Castello di Rivoli hosts On Decay and Rebirth\, a day dedicated to celebrating the generative power of art and nature. The Museum’s galleries\, the theater\, and the eighteenth-century atrium will come alive with contemporary artists and writers through screenings\, performances\, and readings focusing on metamorphosis\, coexistence\, and rebirth. \nHaving moved from Paris to French Guiana to study agriculture and land cultivation according to ancient traditions\, Tabita Rezaire is an artist\, healer\, and yoga teacher whose work explores how the earth\, societies\, and people come together and intersect through agriculture. On the occasion of Vibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth\, the theater of the Museum will host the screening of two videos by the artist addressing the meaning of traditional agriculture and ancient practices. Jardin Bois de Rose (Rosewood Garden)\, 2022\, tells the story of a garden in French Guiana where various species of traditional medicinal and ornamental plants are grown. With this work\, Rezaire opens a window into the local pharmacopeia. Terre Rouge (Red Earth)\, 2022\, explores possible ways in which individuals can reconnect with the earth and ancestral practices related to traditional indigenous agriculture. \nBenni Bosetto’s artistic practice has always focused on the transformation and deconstruction of the body. For the occasion of On Decay and Rebirth\, the artist presents TANGO!\, 2024\, an unprecedented performance that unfolds in the exhibition spaces of the collection in three moments: from the melancholy of a solitary heart\, an interspecies tango will invade different rooms of the Museum\, culminating in a cathartic living carillon. The work aims to initiate a reflection on infatuation as a process of intoxication and on the corporeality of feelings\, playing with clichés and archetypes associated with love. \nA religious figure\, writer\, mystic\, and theologian from 12th-century Germany\, Hildegard of Bingen wrote treatises on medicine and botany regarding the medicinal use of herbs. Among her works is Lingua Ignota per simplicem hominem Hildegardem prolata\, a text written in a language she invented for mystical purposes. Writer and critic Huw Lemmey interprets Hildegard’s vision in his text Lingua Ignota\, addressing the themes of apocalypse\, epidemic\, and the regenerative power of mystical practices. For On Decay and Rebirth\, Lemmey will read excerpts from his book\, followed by a collective reading of the text published in Italian in 2023 by Timeo. \nVisual artist Antonia Brown resides between Cape Town and Brussels. Her artistic practice extends through sculpture\, writing\, and performance\, she posits how materials participate in the ongoing formation of bodies. Through a performative reading containing contributions by British author Kate Briggs\, Brown meanders through the history of red\, drawing on its particular relation to extraction and toxicity. MERCURY + RED + MATRILINEAL\, 2024\, investigates how color has been submerged in the politics of the body since antiquity to the present day: from Carmine\, drawn from female parasitic Cochineal insects of the Nopal cactus in Mexico\, to vermillion and its noxious entanglement with Mercury\, to blood red. Brown thus evokes mercurial qualities to symbolise the stories and transmission of lineages of the feminine. \nVibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth’s final event will take place on Sunday\, March 24th at 12 p.m. at Orti Generali\, str. Castello di Mirafiori\, 38/15\, Turin\, with Banchetto della rinascita (Banquet of Rebirth) curated by Debora Incorvaia and Paolo Bosca\, involving the Orti Generali community. This will be followed by a poetry reading curated by the Ethereal Society of Poetry. \nVibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth is a project realized by Almanac Inn\, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea\, and Orti Generali\, with the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo\, Fondazione CRT and Regione Piemonte. \nVibrant Natures. On Decay and Rebirth is curated by Guido Santandrea for Almanac Inn and Marianna Vecellio for Castello di Rivoli. \n\nBIOGRAPHIES\nBenni Bosetto\n(Italy\, 1987) artist \nBosetto studied at the Brera Academy in Milan and at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. Her practice encompasses drawing\, performance\, sculpture and installation\, and investigates the body from an interspecies and gender perspective. She has recently deepened her study of ancient and contemporary healing rituals\, the states of semiconsciousness characteristic of meditation and sleep. She has exhibited at MAMbo\, Bologna\, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo\, Guarene\, GAMeC\, Bergamo and Quadriennale di Roma. \n  \nAntonia Brown\n(South Africa\, 1989) artist \nAntonia Brown studied at the University of Witwatersrand\, Johannesburg\, and the Piet Zwart Institute\, Rotterdam\, and participated in residency programs at Fondazione Ratti\, Como\, Cité Internationale des Arts\, Paris\, and Morpho\, Antwerp. Her recent research investigates how medieval humoral medicine and botany have influenced our conceptions of the body and how this relates to a decolonial process of reimagining somatic relationships. She collaborates with writer and translator Kate Briggs. \n  \nHuw Lemmey\n\n(England\, 1986) writer\, artist and critic \nAuthor of Lingua Ignota (Timeo\, 2023)\, My Corbyn Chemsex Hell (Montez Press\, 2019) e Chubz: The Demonization of my Working Arse (Montez Press\, 2014). He writes about gender studies\, sexuality\, politics and mysticism. He contributes to Frieze\, The Guardian\, Flash Art\, Tribune\, TANK\, The Architectural Review\, Art Monthly\, New Humanist\, Rhizome and Vogue. Together with Ben Miller\, he hosts the podcast Bad Gays\, from which the book Bad Gays. Crudeli e spietati: una storia omosessuale (Il Saggiatore\, 2023) was published. \n  \nTabita Rezaire\n\n(France\, 1989) artist\, devotee\, yoga teacher\, doula and farmer \nRezaire lives in Cayenne\, French Guiana\, where she founded Amakaba\, a center for the wisdom of earth\, body and sky. She holds a degree in Economics and a Master of Research in Moving Image from Central Saint Martins\, London. Rezaire is a founding member of the artist group NTU and part of the duo Malaxa. Her practice focuses on the relationship between technology and spirituality. She imagines network sciences (organic\, electronic and spiritual) as healing agents. Rezaire has been exhibited at Centre Pompidou\, Paris; Serpentine\, London; MoMa\, NY; New Museum\, NY; MASP\, Sao Paulo; Gropius Bau Berlin e Artspace\, Sydney. \n  \nVIBRANT NATURES. ON DECAY AND REBIRTH\n\nVibrant Natures. \nStarting with the investigation of residual places and the transformation of matter\, the project esplores how processes of decay can represent opportunities for change\, metamorphosis and nurture\, in which new forms of coexistence\, alliance and stratification help to reimagine the existing and possible futures. \nIn an approach that places transdisciplinarity\, ecology\, and intersectionality at its center\, the three partners will develop a program that\, from February 3rd to March 24th\, culminates in the week of the spring equinox\, a symbol of harmony and a condition for transformative benefit. \nVibrant Natures is a project made possible by the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo\, Fondazione CRT\, and Regione Piemonte.

SUMMARY:Live Collection / Guercino at the Cerruti Collection
DESCRIPTION:Live Collection / Guercino at the Cerruti Collection\n\nA painting and a lecture on the occasion of the exhibition Guercino. Il mestiere del pittore\, Musei Reali – Sala Chiablese\, Turin\n  \nFrom 6 April to 28 July 2024 Guercino’s painting of St Andrew from the Cerruti Collection will be on display in the Rectangular Room of the Villa in Rivoli \nFriday 10 May\, 6 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.\, Orchid Room\, Villa Cerruti \nOn the occasion of the first Live Collection event\, Annamaria Bava and Gelsomina Spione\, curators of the exhibition at the Musei Reali\, will guide the public to discover the paintings of the great 17th century Emilian artist \n  \nFrom Saturday 6 April to Sunday 28 July 2024\, in conjunction with the exhibition Guercino. Il mestiere del pittore\, organised by CoopCulture with Villaggio Globale International\, and curated by Annamaria Bava and Gelsomina Spione (23 March – 28 July 2024\, Musei Reali – Sala Chiablese\, Turin)\, a painting by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri\, known as Guercino (Cento\, Ferrara\, 1591 – Bologna\, 1666) will be on display in the Rectangular Room of Villa Cerruti. The work\, now part of the Cerruti Collection\, was for a long time the property of Andreina Cerruti (Turin\, 1923-2022)\, sister of Francesco Federico and first President of the Fondazione Francesco Federico Cerruti per l’Arte. \nThe painting portrays St Andrew as an elderly man with a beard and flowing hair\, whose gaze\, veiled with sadness\, is fixed on an undetermined point outside the frame. The old man is effortlessly holding an X-shaped cross\, the instrument of his martyrdom and customary iconographic attribute. The small size and contemplative mood suggest that the work was perhaps used for private worship. The textured finish and soft brushstrokes\, characterised by nuanced chiaroscuro place the work in the fifth decade of the 17th century. A period that coincides with the painter’s move from his native Cento to Bologna\, where he also transferred his flourishing workshop. \nOn the occasion of the display of the painting in the Villa in Rivoli\, on Friday 10 May 2024\, from 6.00 to 7.30 p.m.\, the first lecture of Live Collection will take place. Live Collection is a new series of appointments at the Cerruti Collection\, featuring in-depth studies and lecture-concerts. Annamaria Bava (Musei Reali\, Turin) and Gelsomina Spione (University of Turin)\, curators of the exhibition dedicated to Guercino at the Musei Reali in Turin\, will guide the public to discover the history\, production and legacy of the 17th-century Emilian painter\, also retracing the salient stages and ideas that led to the realisation of the rich and important exhibition event. \n  \nThe conference\, for a maximum of 20 people\, will be held in the Orchid Room of Villa Cerruti and will include a special visit to the Villa. \nIt is necessary to book and purchase the ticket at https://www.castellodirivoli.org/tickets/# \nTickets cost € 10.00 and may only be purchased online. \nThe shuttle bus to the Cerruti Collection leaves at 5.55 p.m. from the square in front of the Castello di Rivoli. \n  \nFor ticket holders of the exhibition Guercino. Il mestiere del pittore\, the partners Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and Collezione Cerruti offer a reduced rate of € 19.50 instead of € 26.50 for access to Villa Cerruti and Castello di Rivoli. \n  \n\nAnnamaria Bava\nDirector\, Galleria Sabauda – Musei Reali\, Turin. She holds the role of Head of the Art Collections and Archeology Area. She has published numerous essays\, in particular on art and collecting between the 16th and 18th centuries\, and has curated several exhibitions in Italy and abroad. \n  \n\n \nGelsomina Spione\n\nProfessor of History of Modern Art\, University of Turin. She has mainly dealt with the Piedmontese and Ligurian figurative culture of the 17th and 18th centuries. She recently published the volume Il Barocco a Genova «un misto di più maniere» (Rome 2023). \n  \nThe conference will be accompanied by a piano performance by the duo Audisio. The musical program is drafted by Mario Calisi.\nThe duo Audisio (Edoardo and Giacomo Audisio) was born from the fraternal pleasure of sharing the piano keyboard aimed at researching and disseminating both ancient and contemporary music. Edoardo and Giacomo Audisio\, winners of the Sestri Levante Bach Prize in 2023\, carry out both solo and chamber music activities. \n\n  \n\n  \n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Living Museum | Erratic Bodies | September 28\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Two days of activities for the public with the presence of artists Mohammad Al Faraj\, Moza Almatrooshi\, Matilde Cerruti Quara\, Ufuoma Essi\, Lamin Fofana\, Invernomuto\, and Lea Porsager. \nSaturday\, September 28\, 2024 – Erratic Bodies I\nSaturday\, October 12\, 2024 – AMACI Giornata del Contemporaneo | Italian Contemporary Art – Erratic Bodies II\nCastello di Rivoli \nPURCHASE TICKET HERE \nCastello di Rivoli presents two new autumn dates of Living Museum. The program promotes experimental approaches that bridge various disciplines\, where visual art intersects with other contemporary languages\, such as cinema\, dance\, and music. The project explores the dual nature of the word ‘live\,’ emphasizing the inseparable connection between art and audience participation within the Museum’s spaces. \nThe events will take place on Saturday\, September 28\, and Saturday\, October 12\, 2024 – AMACI Giornata del Contemporaneo | Italian Contemporary Art– offering to the public a series of activities featuring international artists. The two events are dedicated to the theme of Erratic Bodies – a title borrowed from the glacial erratics in the morainic landscape of the Val di Susa – and are curated by Giulia Colletti. \nTransported by Alpine glaciers to the valley floor during the Ice Age\, these masses\, deposited in unexpected locations across the Piedmont region\, often became objects of worship and sacred rituals\, leaving traces in local folklore. Composed of sediments distinct from their surrounding environment\, glacial erratics serve as witnesses to an unusual journey. They thus embody a state of being ‘out of place’ in their context\, prompting reflections on contemporary issues of migration and transition for both human and non-human bodies\, as well as the challenges posed by past and present climate changes. \nThe artists featured over the two days are Mohammad Al Faraj\, Moza Almatrooshi\, Matilde Cerruti Quara\, Ufuoma Essi\, Lamin Fofana\, Invernomuto\, and Lea Porsager. \nThe program blends social rituals\, immaterial archives\, and various cultural languages and approaches\, exploring\, over the two days\, the significance of collective memory—not as a mere sum of individual experiences\, but as a process of shared narrative that cements a common identity. By promoting the convergence of transdisciplinary research\, the events highlight how performing arts\, as well as living bodies\, do not exist within a confined space but take shape and meaning in their erratic existence\, continually shifting direction and drawing from the overcoming of geographical\, disciplinary\, and imposed classifications. \nThe schedule includes various artistic interventions addressing both individual and collective challenges related to the erasure and rehabilitation of historical narratives. The focus is on movement\, both physical and imaginative\, with research exploring transitions\, boundary crossings\, and the imagination of other worlds\, embracing a state of personal and collective metamorphosis. \n\nLiving Museum\nErratic Bodies I\nSeptember 28\, 2024\nIn the morning and early afternoon\, the public is invited to actively participate in PALINSESTO\, the first chapter of Matilde Cerruti Quara’s intervention at Castello di Rivoli. The artist encourages visitors to interact with her body by writing freely on it in response to the question ‘WHO ARE YOU?’. By dissolving her artistic identity and viewing the performer as a channel for receiving and transmitting a universal message\, Matilde offers herself as a blank page and mirror for collective thought\, prompting reflection on the multiple layers that make up the narratives we tell ourselves. The performance draws inspiration from the history of Castello\, which in its own way is an ultimate palimpsest\, particularly from the inscriptions found on its walls left by soldiers during the Second World War. \nThe afternoon continues with a preview of Lea Porsager‘s Rosy-fingered Dusk (2023) and Clockwork C.O.W. (2024)\, two 90-second flicker film loops accompanied by texts and pictograms. Both works reference the so-called Doomsday Clock\, created by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists as a way of tracking how close humanity is to a global catastrophe. The closer to midnight\, the closer to total collapse. In the short loops\, subatomic particles known as muons (or\, in cow-speak\, “moo-ons”) move sleepily and erratically through impossible\, impassable expanses. \nAt sunset\, the public is invited to participate in REALISMO MAGICO\, an immersive poetry performance that concludes Matilde Cerruti Quara’s intervention. For this occasion\, she has written new texts reflecting on memory\, intergenerational trauma\, and the cathartic power of community. Exploring the human paradox with its dance of light and shadow—especially in times of war—the performance aims to offer the audience a poetic ritual as a means of collective reconnection. \nFinally\, Lamin Fofana will present a new performance designed to explore\, through the rituality of sound\, the notion of the extension and fluctuation of time. \n\nLiving Museum\nErratic Bodies II\nOctober 12\, 2024\nOn October 12\, Castello di Rivoli will present Living Museum as part of AMACI Giornata del Contemporaneo | Italian Contemporary Art. \nInspired by Toni Morrison’s text The Site of Memory\, Ufuoma Essi’s film Half Memory will be presented for the first time in Italy at Castello di Rivoli\, featuring a live soundtrack by Shamica Ruddock. The film is a profound meditation on memory\, isolation\, and contemporary narratives\, oscillating between years\, cities\, and evolving images\, exploring the present as an artifact of the past. \nMohammad Al Faraj will present a participatory action titled What it Will Take to Flock the Wings of Freedom Again? The audience will join the artist in awakening the bird of prayer\, wishing for a better tomorrow\, using palm leaves as wings and words and poetry as the wind. \nThe museum’s café will offer special aperitifs\, providing an opportunity to enjoy a drink and food. The special aperitifs are conceived by artist Moza Almatrooshi and prepared by the museum café. Almatrooshi’s artistic and culinary practice draws on ancient and modern mythologies of the Arabian Peninsula\, influencing both her recipe creation and her political research on food in the region. \nInvernomuto will present BlackMed for the first time at Castello di Rivoli. This project was initiated as a digital archive of sounds collected from various sources\, inspired by the insights of scholar Alessandra Di Maio on the Mediterranean Sea. Based on the identification of this fluid space marked by migratory crises\, BlackMed leverages themes of mobility\, intersection\, and exchange that are constants in its history and present. \nFor the presentation of BlackMed at Castello di Rivoli\, there will also be a special afternoon visit to the Cerruti Collection\, hosted at Villa Cerruti and guided by art historian Fabio Cafagna. The visit will focus on the various representations of the Mediterranean over the centuries\, starting with the 17th- and 18th-century atlases from Francesco Federico Cerruti’s collection. It will also offer an opportunity to reinterpret some works from the Collection from an alternative perspective\, highlighting the connections between the regions bordering the Mediterranean. \n\nINFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC\nLiving Museum\nCastello di Rivoli \nSchedule of Artistic Interventions\n\n(The program is subject to slight changes. He is deeply influenced by the oral traditions and legends of the Saudi collective imagination\, drawing inspiration from social practices and architectures\, both urban and rural\, of everyday life. \nMoza Almatrooshi experiments with culinary recipes and forms of collective storytelling. She uses literary fantasy to analyze gender dynamics and geopolitics. Her practice is distinguished by the symbolic use of food in narrating alternative stories\, stemming from the erasure of Arab polytheistic practices.  \nMatilde Cerruti Quara is a poet\, performer\, actress\, and writer. Her artistic practice flows between experimental theater\, text-based works\, and immersive installations. Rooted in the magical realism of language and narrative\, her work interrogates themes of singular and collective identity\, exploring archetypes\, belief systems\, natural forces\, spirituality and rituals\, as well as sexuality and power dynamics.  \nUfuoma Essi primarily works with film and moving images\, as well as installation and sound. Her research focuses on feminist epistemology and the reconstruction of lost histories. The archive is a fundamental tool through which Essi seeks to examine and fill the silences and gaps produced by political and historical narratives.  \nLamin Fofana is an electronic music producer\, DJ\, and artist whose repertoire ranges from instrumental electronica to experimental music\, ambient\, and techno. In his practice\, Fofana explores identity\, diaspora\, and migration\, reflecting his translocal experience from Sierra Leone and Guinea to the United States. His artistic vision is deeply influenced by the various sounds and cultures he has encountered along his journey. \nInvernomuto is the name under which Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi have been operating since 2003. Invernomuto tends to think openly\, developing different projects that take the form of moving images\, sounds\, performative actions\, and editorial activities\, within the context of a practice defined by the both dispersed and precise use of different media. \nLea Porsager intertwines fabulation and speculation with a variety of expressive means\, including film\, sculpture\, photography\, and text. Her works embrace themes such as science\, politics\, feminism\, and esotericism.  \n
