Opening up to the variety of expressive languages and different cultural and aesthetic perspectives that, amid emerging social realities and globalization, characterize contemporary art research, the exhibition develops as a search for that problematic threshold, between identity and mirroring, where the definition of self evolves simultaneously and reciprocally with that of the world. The metaphor of the mirror and its boundary translates the multiplication and shattering of cognitive and emotional levels, once confronted with the experience and the very idea of boundary and otherness. This is seen in the identification of zones that are intermediary but which involve each other, between utopia and realism in the installations of Thomas Hirschhorn, between the anonymity of the metropolis and fluctuating and alternative identities in the paseos (\u201cwalks\u201d) of Francis Al\u00ffs, between the obtrusiveness of the stereotype and personal rediscovery and reaffirmation in the films of Steve McQueen. Likewise, in the multiplication of interpretations and temporal planes on which the ephemeral architectures of Bodys Isek Kingelez are based \u2013 transient morphologies between modernist design, disenchanted\u00a0 play and feasible perspective \u2013 or in the self-portraits of Cecilia Edefalk, where the subject, in the chain of replicas,\u00a0 finds itself different from itself, an extraneous object, different contemporary practices of \u201cswitching\u201d are defined, in the codification and reciprocal identification between reality and fiction, true and false, vision and comprehension. Instead of becoming antagonistic categories, these work together on the experience of the irreducible complexity of existence and, allowing us to be reflected in new images of an identity seen outside, and they lead us on an adventurous discovery of both the world that lies just outside the mental sphere and the self that is revealed to be part of the world, as if on a mirror\u2019s edge.<\/p>\n
