A restless voyager, Franz Ackermann (Neumarkt St. Veit, Germany, 1963) nurtures his artistic research through long displacements. Brief stays in the city of Berlin, where his studio is located, alternate with numerous trips that have brought him to different cities throughout the world, including Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok, Beijing, Sao Paolo and New York.<\/p>\n
The exhibition \u201cB.I.T.\u201d (\u201cBack in Town \u2013 Di ritorno in citt\u00e0\u201d) develops Ackermann\u2019s analysis of tourism and is conceived as a single large installation made up of different works. The space is defined by Non Stop, Daily<\/em> (Senza sosta, quotidianamente<\/em>), 2000, large wall paintings that allude to a possible graphic of a trip itinerary. The layout is animated by a series of works on paper, personal systems of orientation for the visited cities, which the artist calls Mental Maps (Mappe mentali). The large oil paintings present details of urban sites that, while specific, might pertain to any city.
