The jury of Illy Prize 2013, consisting of Defne Ayas, Matthew Higgs, Beatrice Merz and Katharine Stout has selected as part of the Present Future section of Artissima 2013, the two artists, the French Caroline Achaintre and Turkey’s Fatma Bucak, assigning ex aequo the award that, as last year, involves the production of a work and its exhibition at the Castello di Rivoli.<\/p>\n

Presented by Alberto Peola gallery from Torino, Fatma Bucak exhibits I must say a word about fear, 2014. Over the course of her time in Cairo in spring of 2014, she invited people of different social classes to participate in discussion groups on trauma. At Bucak\u2019s instigation, the participants recounted their experience of fear through the use of objects, conceptualizing the notion of trauma through sound-based actions. The installation made by the young artists is the fruit of her reflection on identity and the definition of the feeling of fear and its elaboration through resilient practices. It is a complex narrative that touches on the themes of pain and adapting to it and invokes the overcoming of it through reconstructive and reconciliatory experiences.<\/p>\n
