Provenance Research Workshop <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

July 15 \u2013 19, 2019<\/b> and September 23 \u2013 27, 2019<\/b><\/p>\n

Following the Contemporary Art Archivists workshop in 2017 and Registrar workshop in 2018, Castello di Rivoli holds the Workshop for Provenance Research. <\/strong>The two-week program will take place July 15-19, 2019<\/strong> and September 23-27, 2019<\/strong> at the Castello di Rivoli Library in Turin, Italy.<\/p>\n

Jointly run by CRRI, Centre for Research Castello di Rivoli and the Education Department, the workshop is led by Dr. Lynn Rother<\/strong> (Senior Provenance Specialist, The Museum of Modern Art, New York). The program includes lectures as well as hands-on exercises and discussion rounds with international experts in Provenance Research and Art Law. The workshop will focus on the use of transdisciplinary methodologies to establish the history of ownership, discuss legal matters and due diligence practices with emphasis on works of art that were or might have been looted during the Nazi-era. Guest experts include Mara Wantuch-Thole<\/strong>, an attorney specialized in advising private clients as well as German and international public institutions in the art sector; Paul Cossu<\/strong>, a member of Pryor Cashman\u2019s Art Law Group, where he handles a range of litigation and transactional matters on behalf of auction houses, artists, museums, and collectors; Meike Hopp<\/strong>, a Researcher at the Zentralinstitut f\u00fcr Kunstgeschichte (ZI) in Munich and experts of art market and digital resources; Marilena Daquino<\/strong>, a Research Associate at the Digital Humanities Advanced Research Centre (\/DH.arc)<\/em> of the University of Bologna specialized in Semantic Web technologies for art historical photo archives; Ilaria Pavan<\/strong>, an Associate Professor of Contemporary History, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, whose research concerns the history of the Jews in Italy from the Emancipation Era to post\u2013fascist times and history of Fascism antisemitism; Marie Stolberg<\/strong>, a Restitution Specialist at Sotheby’s, London.<\/p>\n

Up to 15 candidates will be selected by a commission including Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Lynn Rother, amongst others.<\/p>\n

Art historians and historians, museum staff, curators or (emerging) scholars with a degree in the arts are especially encouraged to apply. The Education Department of Castello di Rivoli is accredited by MIUR (Ministero dell\u2019Istruzione, dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 e della Ricerca) as a training body. At the end of the workshop, Castello di Rivoli will issue a certificate to participants.<\/p>\n
