{"id":103608,"date":"2020-05-05T14:50:46","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T12:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.castellodirivoli.org\/glass-nost-social-reality-digital-club\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T10:54:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T09:54:38","slug":"glass-nost-social-reality-digital-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.castellodirivoli.org\/en\/glass-nost-social-reality-digital-club\/","title":{"rendered":"GLASS-NOST &#8211; social reality digital club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A program of the Digital Cosmos of Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art created in collaboration with the renowned bookstore Libreria Luxemburg, Turin and with the support of Faust, Turin\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>From 6 May to June 24, 2020, a live Instagram will take place\u00a0on Wednesdays, which will be published the following day on our Digital Cosmos &#8211; the virtual venue of the Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In each episode, two people physically in Turin, one inside and the other outside an open bookshop window, communicate through the glass and with a third person connected remotely, since s(he) is not in the same city, around the question of separation of bodies during the lockdown due to the ongoing Coronavirus health emergency. The project, from an exhibition standpoint, spatialises a reflection on isolation in human relationships. Each recording of the series will take place at a time that will not be communicated in order to comply with government social distancing decrees.<\/p>\n<p>The Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art and the Libreria Internazionale Luxemburg of Turin, which takes its name from the philosopher and revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, present <strong><em>GLASS-NOST &#8211; social reality digital club<\/em><\/strong>, a project curated by <strong>Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev<\/strong>, Director of the Castello di Rivoli and <strong>Gianluigi Ricuperati<\/strong>, writer and essayist. The project, which stems from a proposal by Gianluigi Ricuperati, makes use of Faust\u2019s technical collaboration and is part of the innovative project of the Museum\u2019s <em>Digital Cosmos<\/em>, curated as a whole by <strong>Giulia Colletti<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>GLASS-NOST<\/em> is inspired by the Russian term <em>glasnost<\/em> &#8211; used since the end of the eighteenth century to indicate the need for transparency in legal processes and came back into vogue in the eighties of the last century to identify the new post-Soviet course of the Gorbachev era: the attitude not to conceal difficulties but to discuss them \u2018transparently\u2019. The project consists in a conversation that takes place through the glass of the showcase: an element that divides but at the same time, thanks to its transparency, unites two of the three protagonists who take part in it.<\/p>\n<p>Broadcast on <strong>Digital Cosmos<\/strong>, the new virtual venue of Castello di Rivoli and on the social channels of the Museum and of the Libreria Luxemburg, GLASS-NOST questions some of the most important contemporary experts on the meaning of being, living, vegetating and thriving in this period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev<\/strong> declares, \u201cGLASS-NOST will be seen from home and will mark a step forward in the definition of a new normality because it will occur in a condition of co-presence between real and digital, physical space, embodied, and virtual space. The project, that complexifies the Instagram Live model, \u00a0rejects the idea that culture can simply be translated onto digital platforms and suggests that when we return to the physical experience of the museum, we will return as a cyborg &#8211; fantastic chimeras with technological prostheses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the very beginning of Coronacene (#coronacene)\u201d, says <strong>Gianluigi Ricuperati<\/strong>, \u201cin compliance with the rules of social distancing but aware of the need to get out of our bedrooms at least mentally, the window of a bookstore becomes the booth that divides and unites the two protagonists of a Salon of ideas straddling different disciplines. Guests interact with a third person who is present remotely. The coronacene needs new design possibilities for cultural events. I believe this reaffirms the centrality of the body even in an era of social distancing.\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gigi Raiola<\/strong> of the Libreria Internazionale Luxemburg states that \u201cThe windows overlooking Piazza Carignano have been the frame of a performative work for years. Reflections of book covers superimposed on passages of life from the street. <em>GLASS-NOST<\/em> will transform the same showcases into the set for technical tests of culture, an experiment in understanding the changing present. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first appointment will be broadcast on Instagram on <strong>Wednesday 6 May at 6 pm<\/strong>.
