Following the Contemporary Art Archivists workshop in 2017 and 2021, the Registrar workshop in 2018, the Provenance Research Workshop, the Literary Social Media Content Creator Workshop in 2019 and the Workshop for the Editing of Catalogues Raisonn\u00e9s and Publications of Art in 2020, Castello di Rivoli Museo d\u2019Arte Contemporanea holds a Workshop for the training of experts of education in cultural institutions<\/strong>. Run by\u00a0CRRI \u2013 Castello di Rivoli Research Institute<\/strong>, the workshop is led by Prof. Dr. Carmen M\u00f6rsch<\/strong> (Mainz Art Academy, Johannes-Gutenberg University, Germany). The workshop is open to individuals aged between 22 and 40, <\/strong>with a degree in the Humanities, the Arts, Education, Social Sciences or with experience in the field of education in cultural institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-week course will take place in presence September 5 \u2013 9<\/strong>, 2022 <\/strong>and October 3 \u2013 7<\/strong>, 2022<\/strong> at the Castello di Rivoli Library.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

In recent years, \u201cdecolonizing\u201d has become a buzzword in the arts, at the same time, the plea to \u201cdecolonize\u201d should not be all too easily denounced as just another art world hype. The CRRI 2022 workshop will embark on finding out what this plea could signify for educational work in cultural institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two weeks will be dedicated to reflect case studies and to introduce and discuss participants\u2019 own professional practices. Educational materials will be provided for practical exercises as well as selected readings. A focus will be dedicated to \u201cAnother Roadmap for Arts Education\u201d, a worldwide network initiated in 2011 by Carmen M\u00f6rsch and Janna Graham and made up of scholars and practitioners who seek to conceive arts education as a critical and decolonial practice.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

Together with the Castello di Rivoli<\/strong> Education Department<\/strong>, four guests will be invited to join the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janna Graham<\/strong> will introduce her approaches of interweaving education and curating and to give examples of Projects she developed during her work at the National Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, the Serpentine Gallery, London and Nottingham Contemporary, as well as her current curricular approach at Goldsmiths College in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alejandro Cevallos<\/strong>, former head of the department \u201cInvestigaci\u00f3n y Mediaci\u00f3n Comunitaria\u201d of the Quito City Museum Foundation, Ecuador and now director of that very foundation, as well as long-standing member of Another Roadmap, will join the workshop to discuss his approach of decolonizing Museums in the city of Quito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puleng Plessie<\/strong>, member of the Another Roadmap Africa Cluster and Education Officer at the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, will present her practice at Javett Art Centre where she explores different IsiZulu terminologies to reimagine the language and practices associated with arts education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miriam Schickler<\/strong>, Kunsthochschule Kassel, will bring a contribution on how critical diversity literacy impacts on art education and how it is related to the concept of decolonization; she co-founded the study program \u201c*foundationClass of wei\u00dfensee kunsthochschule berlin\u201d where professionals and activists, together with the students, seek to formulate art histories that include the global South\/East and without using labels.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

After an introduction on the concept of decolonization and reflection on its implications for education in cultural institutions, participants will be invited to read and conceive art education in cultural institutions by putting \u201cdecolonization\u201d as a guiding principle into the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim is for participants to learn, read and articulate art education as a multi-layered practice, and to leave the workshop with a deepened understanding of the complexities of educational work in cultural institutions; with new ideas how to shape their professional practice with a Critical Diversity Literacy reading lens; with sharpened critical questions in respect to their own professional field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To apply, please send a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 along with a motivation letter explaining the specific interest and questions concerning the content and frameworks of the workshop (max. 2000 characters), both in English language<\/strong>, to crri@castellodirivoli.org<\/a> by June 28, 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up to 12 candidates will be selected by a commission including Carmen M\u00f6rsch, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Andrea Viliani<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Castello di Rivoli provides free tuition<\/strong> for selected participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carmen M\u00f6rsch <\/strong>is Professor for Art Education at Mainz Academy of Arts, Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany. Her interests lie in re\/constructing histories, concepts and practices in art education starting from a queer-feminist and intersectional perspective. From 2008 to 2018 she has been working as head of the Research Institute for Art Education at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland. She has been working internationally as a visiting Scholar i.e. at the Institute for Curatorial Research & Practice at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, USA; Fundacion Museos de la Ciudad Quito, Ecuador; Master Cultural Production, Salzburg University; MA Curatorial Studies, Camberwell College of Art, London; Wits School of the Arts, University of Witswatersrand, Johannesburg, SA; MA Art Education at the NYU; OOR Gallery, Vancouver. Together with Nora Landkammer, she forms e-a-r (education and arts research) collective. She is a member of the network \u201cAnother Roadmap for Arts Education\u201d which unites colleagues who collaboratively seek to decolonize art education.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

The workshop is organized thanks to the support of Regione Piemonte<\/strong> and Compagnia di San Paolo<\/strong>, and in collaboration with the Multi Family office Tosetti Value<\/strong>, a benchmark in the enhancement of family assets and private collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Castello di Rivoli<\/strong> Education Department<\/strong> is accredited by MIUR<\/strong> (Ministero dell\u2019Istruzione, dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 e della Ricerca) as a training body. At the end of the workshop, Castello di Rivoli will issue a certificate to the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is part of the activities of CRRI – Castello di Rivoli Research Institute<\/strong>, supported by Regione Piemonte and Compagnia di San Paolo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
