“STIMMUNG’s music is certainly meditative. Time is suspended. We listen to the interiority of the sound, the interiority of the harmonic spectrum, the interiority of the single vowel. Very slight oscillations, never fractures. The senses are awakened and serene. The beauty of interiority illuminates the beauty of eternity.” Karlheinz Stockhausen, Text for Music 1963-70
One of Stockhausen’s most famous and intense works for vocal ensemble comes to Season Scene with Fragmente Ensemble in a fully dedicated project, stage installations/costumes by Serena Laborante and electronic elaborations by Denny Cavalloni. Conceived by Karlheinz Stockhausen in 1968 for a six-part choir, “Stimmung” is “ambiance”, “mood”, but also “chord”, in the search for a pure and natural intonation, a harmony between sounds and voices in the exploration of the “possibility of composing a sound from the inside”: based mainly on harmonics, “Stimmung” generates inner echoes, intimate and solemn dimensions, recreating the atmosphere of oriental prayer, of that “void filled with silences” that arises from the feeling of oneself in a deep and cyclical connection with the other, in a sacred time that cannot be measured by the ear.
