Superficie con Linea | Francesco Arena’s Performance

Francesco Arena’s work, Mare della Tranquillita, currently on display in room 29, will be activated in its performative component, Surface with line.

Performance Superificie con linea by Francesco Arena

Performers: Vanessa Depetris, Antonella Quidatamo

Francesco Arena draws inspiration from characters and events that have marked history and translates them into an anthropometric key for his works. Mare della Tranquillità, 2013, is a used dining table, which the artist cut and reassembled with a metal top to reach the measurements of the table where the German surrender was signed on May 7, 1945 in Reims, France. Mare della Tranquillità includes Superficie con linea, a performative component that can be activated when the sculpture is on display to the public. The action consists of the presence of a performer who, for days and with the necessary breaks, walks along the table from one end to the other, until he has walked 155 km, the original length of the Berlin Wall.
