A project promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, PaBAAC -– Administration for the landscape, fine arts, architecture and contemporary art | Department of architecture and contemporary art

AMACI – Association of Italian Museums of Contemporary Art

The project MUSEO CHIAMA ARTISTA – organized by Angela Tecce and Ludovico Pratesi – is the result of a collaboration between MiBACT and AMACI, established to support the museum network through synergies capable of strengthening the contemporary artistic heritage by commissioning new works by Italian artists from recent generations.

For the first installment of MUSEO CHIAMA ARTISTA the directors of the museums associated with AMACI have selected the twins Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio (Turin, 1978) and have commissioned them to create a work that, in keeping with the project guidelines, will be installed in the spaces of the participating institutions, after being exhibited in a traveling program.

In conjunction with Artissima 2013, Castello di Rivoli is presenting the premiere of the short film, Un ritorno, 2013, by Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio, which will be screened in the museum’s theater.

The De Serio twins have produced various short and documentary films, participating in the most important film festivals in Italy and abroad and winning numerous prizes. The protagonists of their works are uprooted identities, struggling with a continuous redefinition of self, or collective identities, unprecedented and interstitial, in a journey that is a hybrid of staging, memory and performance, where the filmic work becomes a site of exchange and a tool for emerging from invisibility.

In Un ritorno – according to Beatrice Merz, President of AMACI – “the protagonists are themselves, their existence as twins, their speaking to and looking at each other, as in a living mirror. […] They are the double, the beginning of the multiplication from which doubt of the other arises in oneself.”

Un ritorno will be accompanied by a catalogue, published by Libri Aparte with texts by Maria Grazia Bellisario, Beatrice Merz and Angela Tecce and a conversation between Ludovico Pratesi and Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio.
